April 10th was an important day for the LMS 8th graders. Career day was based on showing the kids many different types of jobs by bringing in a variety of people and letting them showcase what their job is about. We have interviewed three of them: a flight attendant, a fencer, and a Fragrance Designer. We got one interview and observed the others while they made presentations.
The person we interviewed was the flight attendant, his name is Michael Becerra, this was his third or fourth choice of job. First was a pilot but he never finished getting his pilot license, then he wanted to be self-employed, and in the end he ended up being a flight attendant. His favorite part of the job is traveling. He said his job needs a lot of patience and you must be open minded.
Greta Fitz is an owner of Ascention, it’s a perfume brand, she started in her early 20s. She encourages kids to follow what you want because you’ll be doing it for the rest of your life. Some things she said were “ you are your own brand, you are your personality” and “ you can time travel with fragrance.” She talked about how she didn’t have the best grades in school but she came out of her shell in college. She got a business degree and began her business in 2019.
Salvat-Vives is a fencer, who is training people for the upcoming big event this year, the Olympics, taking place in Paris 2024. He told the kids a speech where he said “ you are the future”. Then he had the kids practice in armor he brought, then they took turns fencing. It was in the library and there was plenty of space. However all these people have one thing in common, they all talked to the kids and tried to inspire them. They shared their stories, lives, and they all wanted to help these kids and did everything they could.
