The History of Yoshi (written by Julian Alvarado Cedeno)

The story of Yoshi starts with two people, Takashi Tezuka and Shigefumi Hino. Shigeru Miyamoto had wanted Mario to have an animal friend that he could ride. Due to technological limits on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) this couldn’t happen until the Super Nintendo (Super Famicom) was developed. Some early designs of Yoshi looked like this:

However after some redesigns, the product in the final game and cover art looked like this:

Yoshi made his debut in 1990 with the release of the game “Super Mario World”. From then on he became a classic character for the Mario series appearing in 101 games. Yoshi’s latest appearance (as of this article’s writing) was in “Yoshi’s Crafted World” (March 29th 2019).  See next segment ‘List of games Yoshi has been in’ for full list

Yoshi (T. yoshisaur munchakoopas) is a dinosaur-like creature that comes from a species of other Yoshis that vary in color. Yoshi uses his tongue to eat fruits around a level. He can also consume enemy creatures and turn them into an egg, Yoshi has been an ally to Mario and his friends since he made his debut. He is one of the most loved characters in Mario.
